BIDSXM is a classifieds site for Sint Maarten, run by the bidSXM.com team. This page explains what we store when you use the site.

Who we are

BIDSXM is run by the bidSXM.com team on Sint Maarten. There is no company registration number, VAT number, or registered office to list here — this is a small, independently run service. Questions go to info@bidsxm.com.

What this page covers

It covers the public site, accounts, listings, messages, photos, cookies, and the processors we use. It does not cover WhatsApp after you leave our site, or any other app you use to finish a deal.

Your account

If you create an account we store the email and name you give us, a password hash (not the password itself), and your chosen language. We use this to keep you signed in, send mail you asked for (such as a password reset), and show the site in your language. The newsletter is opt-in: we store the interests you typed and which listings we already sent you. It is separate from offer and message alerts, and it stops from the link in its own footer. A name, email address and language left through the pre-launch interest form are stored so we can mail you news about the launch; the link in that mail stops it.

Listings and messages

Listings you publish — title, description, category, price, location, and the details you fill in — are stored so buyers can find them. Messages you send through the site are stored so you and the other person can read them. We may read a conversation when we handle a report or enforce the House rules.

Photos

Photos you upload are stored with a public host so your listing can show them. We look at the file itself to confirm it is an image — we do not trust the type the browser claims. We may send a photo to an AI service to help review quality or draft listing text. That help is optional; publishing still works if it is unavailable.

Cookies

We set a small number of our own cookies. We do not set advertising cookies and we do not use third-party analytics cookies. Names and lifetimes below come from the product, not from this text.

If you are in a region where we ask first, we wait for a choice before setting the visitor cookie. You can change that anytime via . Operators signed into the admin console are not asked and do not get a visitor cookie.

NamePurposeLifetime
bidsxm_sessionKeeps you signed in.7 days
bidsxm_localeRemembers the language you picked.365 days
bidsxm_vA random id so we can count unique visitors per day — not a profile of what you clicked.395 days
bidsxm_cRemembers whether you accepted or rejected the visitor cookie.395 days
bidsxm_gKeeps this browser past the temporary pre-launch gate after you unlock, even if your network address changes.30 days
bidsxm_dPoints to a short-lived listing draft while you snap a photo and review AI copy before creating an account.7 days
bidsxm_utmRemembers the first campaign tags (utm_source and related) for up to 30 days, and a short category for how you arrived (for example a search engine or a social app) for about a year. We do not store the full address of the previous site.30 days

Unique visitors

The visitor cookie is a random id. Each calendar day (Atlantic Time) we store that we saw that id — not a profile of what you clicked. Those daily rows are removed after 400 days. This is how the public counter and the operator view of unique visitors work.

Page views

We count visits to public pages in daily totals. That count is not tied to your account.

Listing views

We count a listing view at most once per visitor per Atlantic Time day, so refreshing does not inflate the number.

Who processes data for us

These companies process data so the site can run. They are not advertisers and they do not get a browsing profile from us.

  • Hosting and the public photo store: Vercel.
  • Database: PostgreSQL on that same host.
  • Transactional email (sign-up, password reset): Resend.
  • Listing translation, and optional listing help (photo review, draft title and description): Anthropic.
  • A temporary stand-in when Anthropic credits are exhausted may use OpenAI — the same kind of listing data, not a second product.
  • If you choose to continue on WhatsApp, that conversation is on Meta's service, not ours.

WhatsApp

A listing may offer a WhatsApp button. If you tap it, you leave BIDSXM. We do not receive that chat.

If you add a WhatsApp number to your account, logged-in visitors can see it and use it from a button on your listings. Remove the number in your account and the button goes away.

AI

Optional AI help (photo review, a draft title or description) does not block publishing. Translating a listing is part of publishing: if the translation cannot be completed, that listing is not saved and you can try again. We send only what that step needs (the title and description, or a photo and the listing facts). We do not use AI to build advertising profiles.

No payments

BIDSXM does not take payments, hold money, or process cards. A price on a listing is information between you and the other person.

How long we keep data

Your account and listings stay until we remove them or the service ends. There is no self-service delete-my-account button yet — email info@bidsxm.com and we will handle it by hand. Visitor-day rows are removed after 400 days. Session, language, consent, visitor and pre-launch gate cookie lifetimes are in the table above.

Your rights

Depending on where you live you may have rights to access, correct, or delete personal data, or to object to certain processing. Email info@bidsxm.com. We will need enough detail to find your account. We do not sell personal data.

Pre-launch access

While the public site is behind a temporary gate, unlocking it stores the name you typed and the network address of that request, so the operator can see who opened the gate. That record is an operational log, not a marketing list. Unlocking also sets a first-party cookie so this browser stays open if the network address rotates (mobile networks, iCloud Private Relay). The coming-soon page itself is counted like any other public page: daily view totals, and the visitor cookie in regions where we do not ask first. This section will be removed when the gate is gone.

Changes

If this page changes in a way that matters, we update the date at the top.
